The chart above displays the potential dangers that are ever present when betting on sports. The chart and the bet-by-bet record below offer a lot to learn about the characteristics of winning streaks and losing streaks. Someone subscribing to our newsletter on the first day of the month might have lost all confidence in our plays by the 17th. Few people would blame them. After our plays on the 17th we were down a whopping 12.36 units for the month to date. We lost on the first day of the month and did not get even until the 23rd. By the 17th it would have been easy to decide we were inept at best, crooks at worst.

The fact is, we're not as bad as we appeared in the first half of this month and, frankly, we're not as good as we appeared in the last half of the month. From the 19th through the 31st - 13 days - we made a profit of 26.32 betting units over 63 bets (excluding 4 ties). We simply got lucky. In the end, it turned out to be a better than average month with a net profit of 13.96 betting units over 140 total bets (excluding 7 ties). For someone subscribing to our newsletter on the 18th of the month we looked like God's Gift to the Sports Bettor. Of course, we are NOT God's Gift to the Sports Bettor, but neither are we crooks. In the end, we are very good at what we do - but like anyone else, we are susceptible to losing streaks and we also have winning streaks. So far as our handicapping, we did nothing different the last half of the month than we did the first half. The key to success when using our newsletter as a guide is patience and correct money management. 

Unfortunately, patience and correct money management are not common characteristics among beginning gamblers. That's one of the reasons we do not encourage most beginners to subscribe to our newsletter. We are not here to hurt people, and it does not take a big stretch of the imagination to picture a beginning gambler losing his entire bankroll, or enough of his bankroll to cause serious damage, during those first 17 days of the month. In sports betting, experience is the best teacher. To be successful, it is imperative that you familiarize yourself with the strange quirks, bad beats, and seemingly unlikely winning and losing streaks that are sure to happen. Very few inexperienced gamblers, having signed on at the first of this particular month, would have had the balls to belly up to the window and bet our plays on January 19th. Having the experience (courage?) to keep going when the going gets tough is a prerequisite to successful sports betting, and the only way to get that experience is to keep careful records. I have written before that surprises are for birthdays and Cracker Jack, not sports betting.
